WOOD SPECIES
Quality cutting and serving boards are made from hard woods. The patterns and colors you see in a Red Cardinal Woodshop creation come directly from Mother Nature.
We hand-select each board from local sawmills, focusing on the natural beauty of the material while supporting our neighboring community.
GRAIN ORIENTATION
Our cutting boards are crafted so either the end grain, or the edge grain of the wood is displayed on the cutting surface. Our serving boards feature the face grain of the wood, which showcases the unique patterns and textures of each piece.
(These terms refer to the different parts of the board when it is cut from a tree. End grain cutting boards are valued for their resistance to knife marks, creating an enhanced cutting surface. These boards are more complex to create and thus carry an additional cost compared to edge grain cutting boards).
